Biography:

 
Dr Gilberto K. K. Leung is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, and an Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He graduated from The Medical College of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London, in 1992. He received training in the U.K., Hong Kong and the U.S., and was awarded the Hallett Gold Medal and the J. Douglas Miller Medal in Neurosurgery. He joined The University of Hong Kong in 2005, obtained the Master of Surgery degree and the Faculty Teaching Medal in 2009, and a PhD degree in 2014. He serves as an Assistant Dean within his Faculty.
 
His areas of clinical and research interests include neuro-oncology, pituitary and endoscopic surgery, neurotrauma, neuroregenerative therapy and medical education. As a practicing clinical neuroscientist, he is particularly interested in the molecular mechanisms and treatment of chemoresistant brain tumours. He has recently undertaken a company-sponsored research project on the use of a locally developed haemoglobin-based oxygen carrier in the treatment of glioblastoma. He has authored/co-authored 8 book chapters, 110 refereed journal articles, 93 conference papers, 26 other publications, and delivered 68 invited lectures.
